Our passion, and claim to fame, are our made-from-scratch, hand-crafted, fresh loaves of the best whole grain bread on the planet. Our bread begins with premium wheat from north-central Montana, that we stone-mill into fresh flour every morning, right in our bakery! We take that wheat and blend it with ingredients from nature like yeast, salt, and local honey to produce bread that tastes simply amazing. There are no additives, frozen doughs, or ingredients you can't pronounce. We also have an array of homemade sweets, seasonal specialty products, and a full sandwich line, made with top quality meats, cheeses, and veggies. Did you know...
1.) Our bread making process is long! Many commercial types of bread are made using short cuts so large amounts of bread can be produced quickly. We like the traditional methods of bread making because it naturally develops an exquisite flavor and texture with time instead of relying on the use of additives. And we start early so we can sell FRESH bread hot out of the oven every day!
2.) In commercial milling, each kernel has its parts separated then recombined in the same relative proportion. And commercial flour has its bran and germ toasted to prolong shelf life. At Great Harvest, we mill our own kernels into fresh, 100% whole grain flour every day! Our flour is exactly how it exists in the intact whole grain. What goes in is what comes out. Our whole grain flour is fresh. As soon as a wheat kernel is ground, the nutrients start to deteriorate. This is why we always use our flour fresh within 48 hours of milling so we can get the nutritional value, the flavor, and the quality we want in our bread.
3.) There's great news for the bread lover in all of us! According to the USDA, there are no genetically engineered commercial wheat varieties available. At Great Harvest, we keep our breads pure and simple by using wholesome ingredients. Our bread stays fresh without the use of artificial preservatives or additives. We rely on the natural preservative quality of our bread making process, not on chemicals or additives to make our bread last.
